FEDERAL JUDGE
In 2004 she was appointed to the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan as a federal magistrate judge. There she had the opportunity to preside over a wide range of cases which presented disputed issues of professional liability, personal injury, ERISA, intellectual property (patent, trademark, copyright), labor and employment claims, police misconduct, False Claims Act violations, whistleblower, qui tam, Sec. 1983 claims, environmental noncompliance, contract disputes, admiralty and maritime, Fair Labor Standards Act violations, First Amendment, mortgage and lender liability, fair housing, 1st and 3rd party auto claims, FDCPA, ADA, TCPA, FMLA, health care issues, immigration, and others.
The majority of these civil cases proceeded to settlement conferences and hearings, over which she presided and which comprised a significant portion of her docket. Judge Majzoub’s successes in resolving the most complex and difficult cases ultimately earned her a reputation among the bench and bar as the “go to” settlement judge.
In January 2020 Judge Majzoub retired from the federal bench. Her sixteen year tenure as a hands-on federal judge uniquely augmented her more than 25 years as a trial lawyer handling complex litigation cases in the State of Michigan and nationally.
TRIAL ATTORNEY
Mona K. Majzoub began her legal career as the first woman hired into a prominent Detroit law firm. There she handled hundreds of professional liability cases (medical malpractice, hospital liability, health care, personal injury, employment, products liability, mass tort litigation, and others) on behalf of her clients. She tried dozens of lawsuits, became the firm’s first female shareholder, and with earnest commitment engaged herself in community activities as a board member on several local boards: Family Services of Detroit and Wayne County (Member, Board of Directors), St. John Community Hospital (Member, Board of Trustees), and the American Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (Founding Board Member), to name a few. She was elected treasurer of the Arab American Bar Association (1982-1986) and served as its President from 1987-1994. Her 2004 appointment to the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan as a United States Magistrate Judge is a testament to a litigation career in which she consistently demonstrated excellence based upon her legal skills, resolute work ethic, unimpeachable ethical standards, leadership, poise, and even-handed fairness, while representing her clients rigorously and zealously.
